Abyss

"Stare long into the abyss...and the abyss stares back." This painting was inspired by a boat ride with a friend. I stared down into the water from the side of the boat as we rode along and wondered if anyone was staring back. It was an eerie feeling that lingered for days. The tall ship in the background draws the viewer's focus upward while not noticing the mermaid's gaze until after.
